Wedding Usher's Tipsheet
Most members of the wedding party know what their role is or will be told at Seating guests at the wedding ceremony 1) Ask if they are guests of the bride or the groom. If the bride, seat them on the left side of the church (left facing the altar). If groom, put them on the right. 2) Keep the first several rows open as directed by the bridal couple, for special guests. 3) Give female guests your right arm, and the man follows behind. If they don't cooperate or understand your gesture, just lead a couple to their seats. 4) Seat the older guests first, if more than one group is ready to sit down at a time. 5) As guests reach their seats, give them a program. 6) If the sides of the church fill unevenly after seating many guests, balance them out by asking guests if they would mind sitting on the other side. 7) When most guests are seated and/or it is almost time to go, seat special guests in this order (with their escorts):
8) Position the aisle runner in place if necessary. After the ceremony, the ushers should hand out maps to the reception site, if necessary, collect discarded items from the ceremony location, and participate in photos as needed. In your wedding planning, don't forget to order wedding programs for your ushers to pass out! You can order blank ones and have them printed at your local copy shop, have them printed by a professional printer, or even order wedding program fans!
